ok here is the start of a major long entry, it covers my train trip to chicago, will post the chicago stuff later cause i wana get some of debbies pics as well. here goes, i wrote this on the train so id remember everything, hope u dont all get to bored!!
well the trip from fernie to whitefish was pretty uneventful, adam and his 2 mates all canadians kindly gave me a lift, i was a bit nervous about crossing the border, as were the guys since the last time they crossed they had to line up against the wall and got searched, but it all went fine just had to go into the office answer a few questions, fill out a customs card, get a photo and fingerprints taken then pay the $6 fee. we were all quite excited to be in the U.S. got to whitefish checked into my hotel then went out for a look about, its such a cute wee place. then went for pizza which was amazing, thai pie it had nuts and stuff on it, tasted great, also had a nice glass of wine, made a lovely change from all the beer id been drinking and it came to only $10, woop. then headed back to the hotel and watched tv, it was so good, hadnt seen tv in 2 weeks AND lost was on so that was a bonus. went to sleep at 9.30 i was so tired, so havnt been sleeping well at all because of the trains that go past my house honking there horns!
9.10am so im writing this on the train from whitefish to chicago and i have to say this is the life!! iv got a sleeper car all to myself and am traveling first class (people keep being surprised that im in a sleeper and a woman in fact chased me down the train to check i was in a sleeper cause i was heading into the sleeper car, must b cause i look like a scruf, lol. so i have already been up for breakfast which was good, omelet and potatoes, its great an because im in first class i can have anything i want at anytime, even got a paper when i got onboard :) so after breakfast i sat in the observation car and took some pics of the glacier park im now sitting in my sleeper typing away and every once in a while taking pics of the amazin scenery. Im pretty sleepy having got up at 6 so will probably have a nap before being called for lunch. oh and there were quite a lot of amish people geting on board at whitefish just thought id mention it since i havnt seen many amish people in my life
12.10 well iv had my nap and seen some lovely views. paul the sleeper attendant came and asked if id like to attend a cheese and wine tasing in the lounge car around 3pm, eh yes please!! its only available to sleeper passengers dontcha know, this is the best train iv ever been on!!! think i might venture up to have lunch around 1 ish, i noticed they have a veggie burger on the menu, yipeee
2.10 (its wierd how i always update at 10 past!!) thats me just back from lunch, was realy nice, had a salad ( thought id try and be healthy since i seem to have been living on beer and burgers and pizza for the last 2 weeks) also had desert just becasue its included and i want my money's worth! was sat next to a woman who is on her way to pennsilvania to see her husband who's in the army, she hasnt seen him in 6 months! thought i was hard done by not having seen debbie for 3!! she had the veggie burger which looked great so i think il have that for tomoro's lunch. The dinning lady just came round the rooms taking reservations for dinner so im booked in for 7.15 which is the latest u can have it, between my 2 course lunch and cheese and wine i think im gona be pretty much full this entire train trip!!
3.45 ok thats me back from the wine tasting, i was hanging with the oldies, dont think there was anyone there under 65!! seriously, think the oldies get discount on sleeper prices, all the cool young hip people are up in coach! but hey they were nice and chatty and i got wine, altho hardly enuf to get drunk on :( think il watch a movie and pass some time till dinner
10.20 iv moved into central time so i moved forward an hour. dinner was ok, not amazin, sat next to the people who have the sleeper opposite so was nice to finaly speak to then. paul came round with freash made cookies earlier and has now turned down my bed and left a mint on the pillow im geting so fat on this trip!!! rite im of to sleep no doubt il be up around 6am tomoro or something stupid. then tomoro i get to see debbie, yipeee, we'v arranged a meeting place casue my phone hasnt been able to get a signal since leaving canada!!! its wierd to think by the time i post this it'l all have happened ages ago!!
fri 27th 9.05am well i had quite a good sleep woke up this morning in St Paul, minneapolis. just had breakfast and we'r aparently on schedule so should be arriving in chicago around 3.50pm,as you can imagine im prety excited about geting there and seeing debbie :)
2.35pm well ive been for lunch which was a veggie burger, was great :) chatted to some more people, think everyone iv met on this train is american so i think they think im a bit of a novelty. we'r just about to leave milwakie so only about an hour and a half till i get to chicago, im so excited my stomach is churning!! i just hope i mange to find debbie as my phone still has no reception, think my canadian sim doesnt like america, which is pretty enoying!! might have to get another sim for my month stay here :(
